Savannah — Spanish Moss and Seashore

Savannah is a magical place. From the spanish moss hanging from tall canopies shading almost every street, to the beautiful architecture and the southern charm of its people.  When I am there, I feel as if I have been transported back in time.

Over the Labor Day holiday, I was fortunate to be able to visit and photograph, spending an entire day visiting several places of interest and soaking in the beauty.

The weather was typical for Savannah, sunny and humid, but not too uncomfortable.  There are trees everywhere; tall trees with branches spreading over walkways and roadways, providing cool, shady places in which to linger.

Here are a few of my favorite shots.

I was particularly interested in seeing Tybee Island Beach to see how it contrasted with South Florida beaches.  While the beaches here in SoFla are steep and short, Tybee Island Beach seems to go on forever, especially when the tide goes out.  The beach is flat and the waves are gentle, inviting visitors to wade out far and rest in the gentle surf.   Surprisingly, the part of the beach I saw had very few people.  I guess Summer is over in Georgia.

Bonaventure Cemetery is huge and hauntingly beautiful. It is between Savannah and Tybee Island and well worth a look. I will definitely return.
